I worked for a couple years part time as an interviewer for a teaching program. Watching, recording, questioning, and rating second career high achieving professionals with an idealistic streak over an 8 hour day to either recommend them to the program as a coachable teacher or... not. . The rubric had several categories, but the one weighted highest was "the PR score" or Personal Responsibility. When faced with hypotheticals during a one on one like a first day of school with no books, no paper, pencils, and ceiling tiles falling off the ceiling — what do you do? Did they talk about the failure of others and how they would report the inequities or did they talk about what they would do? What they had control over. . . Honestly, (and unfortunately) the majority of candidates placed the responsibility on others. It’s like those two type of people memes — are you active or passive. Take responsibility or not.
