BU Women's Soccer wanted to express support for Boston University Athletics Department’s new initiative “Be Counted, Be Voters, BU." Voting is a crucial part of anti-racism because it is an impactful action that allows one to influence the future of this country. It is a right we should not take for granted nor should it be suppressed. Voter suppression is the idea that both legal and illegal efforts are put in place to prevent eligible voters from being able to access voting. Examples of voter suppression are voter ID laws, registration restrictions, voter purges, issues at voting polling places and disenfranchisement. Voter suppression affects everyone, but disproportionately affects people of color and minority groups. It is important for everyone to know their voting rights and the voting process.
