When I was little, my dream was to play in the Olympics for the
@uswnt...as a goalie. Eventually the thrill of standing in goal wore off, and I wanted to be the next Mia Hamm. At 13 I didn't make the local club team, and by 18 I had never been called up for ODP or any youth national teams. It seemed that my soccer career would end at the collegiate level. But I dreamed of more, and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to play for New Zealand. Thanks to
@beastmodesoccer and
@stanfordwsoc, I started to believe that my dreams were still possible, that I could be an Olympian and play on the world stage, even earn a living doing what I love. I'll never know what would have happened if I didn't make the decision to wear the Silver Fern, and I don't dwell on the past. Today the
#footballferns are one week away from flying to Rio for my 3rd Olympic Games, and I'm feeling proud and overwhelmingly thankful for my family, my teammates, and BOTH of my countries.
