#sundaythoughts πŸ‡«πŸ‡· β€’ billiejeanking On what would have been the first day of the 2020 rolandgarros, I’m remembering Suzanne Lenglen on what is also her birthday. Known as β€œThe Goddess,” she was an early disrupter, 6x wimbledon champ, and won a total of 8 Grand Slam singles titles. Suzanne was known for attacking the net and playing with aggression and flair. Her trademark outfit included a bandeau on her head and what was considered scandalous clothing for the era. She was also very popular and played in front of sell-out crowds, and afterward would be featured on the front pages of newspapers for her matches. Suzanne is often considered the first female athlete to become a worldwide celebrity. Suzanne was also an early feminist & advocate for fair pay for athletes. She died at just 39 years young. πŸ‡«πŸ‡· #HistoryMatters #RememberHerName #SuzanneLenglen #TennisHistory #sundaythoughts
