About 100 members of Penn State Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, Detachment 720, gathered together for the annual field training exercise in the woods of Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center on Saturday.
The purpose of the event is to simulate and prepare cadets for a larger formal training exercise second-years will attend in the summer and receive formal evaluation and national ranking of abilities.
At Penn State Air Force ROTC’s exercise, upperclassmen plan and enact the training events while the underclassmen cadets are active participants. Planning for this field training exercise is estimated to have exceeded 100 hours, according to Public Affairs Officer Ryan McLaughlin.
The exercise itself largely consisted of four scenarios groups rotated between and one closing simulation between all participants.
