We never thought we’d see the day: The very-Parisian act of enjoying a cup of coffee on a nostalgic sidewalk cafe has been replaced with tie-dye-hued, collagen-infused lattes paired with LED red light therapy.
At least that’s the case at 48 Collagen Cafe, located in the 9th arrondissement. There, Parisian “it” girls and visitors alike can choose from a lineup of non-dairy “functional beverages,” colored by the usual Goop-style suspects: blue spirulina, beet root, matcha, and activated charcoal. Naturally, bone broth and hydrogenated water are available, too. While they sip, they can partake in some skincare with a 12-minute red light therapy session.
This is, in a lot of ways, at odds with the lifestyle of stereotypical Parisians who famously love cigarettes and, 20 years ago, opposed the opening of Starbucks.
