On the Winter Solstice, 75 years ago, Sierra Ski Ranch welcomed skiers + snow enthusiasts to her slopes for the first time. Brothers Ray and Floyd Barrett dreamt of operating a ski resort on Echo summit, one of the snowiest places on earth, and on Dec. 21, 1946 that dream became a reality. Fast forward to today, and ol' Sierra Ski Ranch has grown from a single tow rope to 2,000 acres of incredible terrain, about a mile up the road from its original location. More than that, it has been a winter haven + family that has brought together so many, to share in the joy of sliding on snow.
