As part of the #SeattleUGrad2022 commencement, the Office of Multicultural Affairs held a Lavender Celebration to acknowledge the achievements of Seattle U’s LGBTQ+ students. The concept of the Lavender Graduation Ceremony was created at the University of Michigan in 1995 by Dr. Ronni Sanlo, who was denied the opportunity to attend the graduations of her children because of her sexual orientation. It emulates other specialized graduation ceremonies, such as those honoring Black or Latinx students. #PrideMonth
