But, did you know, the institution in charge of protecting Zambia’s environment has just approved an EIA for a large scale copper mine in the hills of the Lower Zambezi National Park, the catchment area for the Zambezi, not far from here. What should be a #unesco #worldheritagesite instead stands to become a copper mine. This poses a huge risk not only to the Zambezi River but also to the flora and fauna in and around it, and the thousands of livelihoods that depend on it, not only in Zambia but also in Zimbabwe and Mocambique. A horrific decision. Lower Zambezi National Park prays for a Presidential decree to reverse this decision of #ZEMA and protect it from such travesties forever.
