Tomorrow, I’ll run the #PopularBKHalf for the fifth time. The first time I ran it, in 2011, it marked the first time (of SO MANY) I had to make a bathroom stop mid-race! Monumental stuff. The second, in 2015, I was hoping to go sub-1:50. But I was over-trained, and crashed by mile four. I missed my goal time by about eight minutes. I decided that running to Coney Island was stupid and I would never do it again. But I lied. Because in 2016, I got redemption en route to Coney Island! I ran a 1:46 and felt amazing and HAPPY the entire time. So OK. I love Brooklyn after all. Then, in 2017, I had trained hard and was feeling fast — but a Crohn’s flare popped back up just in time for the race. I made something like eight bathroom stops within those 13.1 miles. I still had some fun, somehow, but it was a depleting day, to say the least. This year, I’m just out to have some fun and maybe run some sweet positive splits! Maybe hit a few bathrooms along the way. I don’t know. I love this run...
