Did you know that a retail marijuana market in the Commonwealth would have given way to an 11.6% sales tax, of which 8% would have gone to the state, 2.5% to the local option tax, and 1.1% to K-12 education? Last month, Governor Glenn Youngkin vetoed Senate Bill 448 and House Bill 698. The state would have started taking applications for cultivating, processing, testing, and selling cannabis on Sept. 1.
