How fast should you cut? This will be unique to each person. But a general rule of thumb is about 1% of total bodyweight per week at the MAX. Granted, the first week or two your body will lose weight relatively quickly because of eating less food and storing less water. After that you really shouldn’t aim for much more than 1% of bodyweight per week if you care about retaining muscle mass. Example: a 100 pound woman shouldn’t lose more than about a pound per week, while a 300 pound man can easily expect 2-3 pounds per week for an extended period of time.
