Bessie Coleman, Pilot Bessie Coleman was the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license. Because flying schools in the United States denied her entry, she taught herself French and moved to France, earning her license from France's well-known Caudron Brother's School of Aviation. She fought discrimination to follow her dream of becoming a pilot, and although she is often overlooked in history, she was a pioneering African American aviatrix. #BlackHistoryCelebration #BlackHistoryMonth
