In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaias, #TBT to Folly Beach County Park and how it was rebuilt after Hurricane Irene. For this week’s Hope Happens Here story, we are revisiting 2017 Quality of Life Grantee charlestoncountyparks and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) and their story of impact. In 2011, Hurricane Irene devastated the Folly Beach County Park, forcing it to close for safety reasons. In 2014, once the beach was able to reopen safely, critical aspects of the beach were missing: boardwalks providing entrance ramps to the beach. In 2017, CCPRC assistant director of recreation, Susie Goudy, knew something had to be done. Goudy applied and received a grant to purchase and install plastic decking material to create a pathway that would make the beach independently accessible daily from the Reeve Foundation Quality of Life Grant Program.
