wagsofsci was founded in 2017 by Elena Pauly and Brooke Pagé after meeting by chance over Instagram. Both their partners had sustained recent spinal cord injuries, and the women instantly bonded over their shared situation and general feelings of isolation in their community. After realizing they lived only blocks apart from one another in Vancouver Canada, the girls launched their Instagram platform in order to connect with other women near them who needed support. The goal of WAGS of SCI is to "empower women supporting their partners in chairs," and aims to provide outreach, community, and sisterhood to women who have the unique dual role of caregiver as well as a romantic partner to someone with an SCI. They have connected with women all over the world and now have dedicated WAGS of SCI Ambassadors holding in-person meet-ups and leading outreach in various cities throughout the United States and Canada.
