It has been a rough week, hell it’s been a rough few months. First covid-19 turned my business and my life upside down. Then
#AhmaudArbery was murder followed by
#BreonnaTaylor and now
#GeorgeFloyd. For the last month, I’ve felt like I’ve been mourning the passing of a family member. And that’s because when I look at Ahmaud, I see my cousin. When I look at George, I see my dad and when I look at Breonna, I see myself. Running, sleeping, shopping, simple things I do every day but could potentially lose my life over because I am black.
Since I’ve been in mourning and my people have been in mourning, I didn’t find it appropriate to celebrate anything to be honest. When I found out a styled shoot I designed would be featured in thecoordinatedbride, I was excited but it seemed inappropriate to share the news because so many people (myself included) are hurting, angry and just plain tired of racial injustice in this country.
