South Dakota State Athletics celebrates Native American Day, commonly referred to as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in other part of the country, by recognizing the heritage, culture, & history of tribes from across our nation & honor the cultural contributions of Native American communities to our nation’s history. Did you know?? South Dakota was the first state to officially celebrate Native American Day. More than a dozen states & the District of Columbia now recognize the day. South Dakota is currently the state with the third-largest population of Native Americans in the United States. President Biden proclaimed October 11, 2021 as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, becoming the first U.S. president to formally recognize the day. #GoJacks 🐰
