Since today is "National Safer Internet Day," it's a good time to have an important talk with your teen about online safety.
Tips:
-Ask your child what websites and apps she uses. Ask what she typically sees and talks about online, the answers will continually change, so keep asking.
-Let your child know not everyone online can be trusted.
-Ask your child who she talks to online and if she knows those people in real life.
-Let her know she can always come to you if she finds something questionable online.
It can be tricky to balance your child's safety and privacy, but safety should be your main concern. Have an open conversation with your child about monitoring her activity- especially with older children and teens. Let her know you respect her privacy and independence but that her safety is your main concern.
