I know, I know. MORE AFFIRMATION TALK. But I have to. Because one of my classes has a lot of English Language Learners. And Speech can be a terrifying class for them. They are all at varying stages of their language learning, some of them only know a few words. They express their struggles with learning and insecurities. TODAY, when I checked their class' mail carrier...I found that some of their classmates had written to them in their home languages (!!!) and they had written to their classmates in English. They didn't have to. English speakers could have just written to English speakers and Spanish speakers could have just written to Spanish speakers...but they wanted to make everyone feel included and loved in their family.
