UCSDalumni Alondra Nelson ’94, Ph.D., has been named by President Joe Biden to serve as deputy science policy chief. ⁠ ⁠ Nelson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology from the ucsandiego graduating magna cum laude in 1994. At UC San Diego, she was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She earned a Ph.D. in American Studies from New York University in 2003. She is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, and the National Academy of Medicine, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Andrew W.
