#TBT: This Monday celebrate #NationalWatermelonDay by cutting into the biggest watermelon you can find. Odds are it will not measure up to this record-setting fruit, grown by Oscar Middlebrooks of Patmos, Arkansas. In this 1935 photo, Middlebrooks poses with the champion melon, sold for $100 to actor and Arkansas native Dick Powell. Middlebrooks was a member of the Nashville Production Credit Association. His watermelon record remained unbroken for 44 years.
