#NationalAppleMonth! In this 1956 photo, Max Stover (right) shows Roger Maurer, secretary-treasurer of the Berrien County National Farm Loan Association in St. Joseph, Michigan, his apple crop. A World War II veteran, Stover used a Federal Land Bank loan to purchase a farm in 1950 and rehabilitate its once neglected 30-acre apple orchard. “Frankly, it was making a little operating capital go a long way that put me into fruit farming,” said Stover. Today, GreenStone Farm Credit Servicesserves Berrien County.
