With today’s throwback, we honor former Hobart football coach George Davis (far left). From 1971 to 1976, he led the Statesmen to six consecutive winning seasons—snapping a string of seven seasons without a winning mark—and a pair of ICAC Championships. A record-setting running back at Syracuse, he held the program’s single season rushing mark for seven years until it was surpassed by the legendary Jim Brown. Davis was also a scholastic football coach, compiling an impressive record at high schools in New York and Georgia. He died on July 20, 2015.
