Patients at Connecticut Children’s do not go alone in their battle against childhood illness; at HuskyTHON, we recognize that siblings, too, are a part of that fight. Today, we take a step #InTheirShoes to better understand their experience and perspective as an integral part of the patient process at Connecticut Children’s. Emma was born with Crouzon syndrome, causing her skull to fuse too early in her development. She has endured three surgeries, and each time, her skull is opened up and expanded, allowing room for her brain to properly grow. Due to increased pressure in her head, Emma would experience seizures leading up to each surgery, which would typically resolve post-operation. More recently, however, the seizures have begun again. Emma remains on medication to keep all of this under control.
