Freedom’s Hill Chapel was the First Wesleyan Methodist Church in the South. It was built in 1847 by Rev. Adam Crooks in Snow Camp, which is now in Alamance County, NC. It was called Freedom’s Hill because slaves and non-slaves were able to worship together. 🙌🏻🙌🏿🙌🏽 In 1999, it was moved to SWU’s campus and was rededicated in October of 2001. Many Wesleyan churches such as the Freedom’s Hill congregation facilitated stations for shelter, supplies, and safe passage on the Underground Railroad.
