Receiving only small salary increases over the past 16 years, Austin City Council members on Thursday played catchup and awarded themselves a significant pay bump that will lift their earnings well into the six-figures.
In a decision that did not go over well when they first proposed it earlier in the week, the council, in one of the final actions in the two-day budget approval meeting, signed off on a 40% pay increase for the 10 district representatives and a 37% pay increase for the mayor.
They mayor's position now pays $134,191 annually. The other council seats pay $116,688.
