Texans from all over the state rallied in front of the Capitol today in support of the George Floyd Act. The Act would ban police choke holds, add restrictions to the use of deadly force and require officers to intervene if another officer is using excessive force. It would also end arrests for non-jailable violations and limit the use of qualified immunity in police brutality lawsuits. Event organizers and activists gathered over 100 people and heard from families who lost loved ones from police violence. Brenda Ramos, the mother of Mike Ramos spoke. As did Angel Gonzales, the sister of Alex Gonzales, who was shot and killed by APD earlier this year. “Texas it is time for us to not just reform policing but to reimagine public safety and transform what it means to serve and protect so that we can have liberty and justice for all,” said Reverend Frederick D.
