Martinez Rangel died in her home at age 71 during the state freeze that left millions without power, water and heat. Although a medical examiner has yet to confirm her cause of death, the Rangel family believes it was because she could not get the medical attention she needed while the city’s infrastructure crumbled under the state’s freezing temperatures. “It just hurts because she wasn’t supposed to go this way,” said Miguel.
