Last year Army veteran Imani Nembhard was pulled over by Williamson County sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Pisa for a missing front license plate while her two children were in the car. The incident escalated when Pisa asked Nembhard if she loved her children after he ran her information. When she quipped back if his parents loved him, Pisa asked her to step out of the vehicle, then wrestled her to the ground as her children watched. “I was embarrassed, humiliated in front of my children,” Nembhard said. She was charged with assault and resisting arrest but the charges were eventually dropped. Pisa resigned two days after the incident. The arrest prompted an investigation by the Texas Rangers and prosecutors. During the investigation Pisa said he thought he was going to receive a gift card to a steak house from his commander for using “good use of force.” On Oct. 15, Pisa was indicted by a grand jury for assault and official oppression in his handling of Nembhard.
