Hundreds of cars arrived early to get in line for emergency food boxes provided Central Texas Food Bank on Thursday, April 30, 2020. The 28-pound boxes provide food and hygiene products to families in need during the coronavirus pandemic. Last week 254,199 Texans filed for unemployment, bringing the total number of Texans filing claims to over 1.5 million in the six weeks since the state shuttered businesses. Tomorrow the governor will begin the first phase of reopening the Texas economy, allowing retail businesses and restaurants to open 25% capacity to the public.
