After the district voted to close Pease Elementary School, it chose Zavala Elementary as the preferred new campus for its students. But only nine families chose to enroll their kids at Zavala, which is located on the east side. The decision has made some Pease parents feel the community has splintered with the majority sending their kids to the west side and only a few sending theirs east. Anya Wiley chose, like most Pease families, to send her daughter to Mathews Elementary, which is only a few minutes up the road from the closing school. Though the school is not accepting transfers, the district has promised to honor Pease parents’ choices. However after Wiley learned the school’s after care program is at capacity, she is unsure to which school she will send her daughter.
