Individuals experiencing homelessness respond to notices that were posted underneath overpasses by the Texas Department of Transportation. On Nov. 4, TxDOT began removing any items found under Austin’s overpasses per Gov. Greg Abbott’s orders. Since then, Abbott announced the state would provide space for homeless individuals to camp in Austin. The land for the camp is located near U.S. 183 and Montopolis Drive. The Austin City Council also approved the purchase of a motel in Southeast Austin that would provide temporary shelter to people who are experiencing homelessness.
