Louise Morse, 93, remembers the Stonewall Riots. She remembers the horrific story of Matthew Shephard. She even had a friend that received shock therapy and died several days later for being gay. That’s why most of her life Louise spent hiding herself and her identity to the world and the people around her. But that wasn’t what hurt the most. “I thought God hated me,” she said. “Because the church is supposed to represent God and if I needed help I wasn’t going to get it.” A couple years ago Louise couldn’t take it anymore. She came out to her church and several straight people for the first time. To her surprise the church quickly became a reconciling church, opening its doors and its arms to Louise and the LGBTQ community for the first time. See story in bio.
