Richard Overton, who was the nation’s oldest man and oldest war veteran, was laid to rest at the Texas State Cemetery on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, in Austin. Hundreds of family members and community members alike gathered at his burial site to pay their final respects to a man honored for his service in World War II and beloved for his propensity to enjoy his supercentenarian status with a cigar in one hand and a glass of whiskey in the other.
