Selena Ibarra was 14 years old when she started work at a packing plant in #Sampson County to help pay the bills for her family of 13. She had dreams of attending #NCStateCALS, but had no idea to how to apply. No one in her family had attended #college, but quitting isn’t in the family name. Born in #Mexico, her parents had successfully navigated the United States #immigration system to receive citizenship decades before. They encouraged Ibarra as she toiled over her #NCState application. After receiving her first rejection, she got very discouraged, but persevered until she landed a spot at NCStateAGI. Now she’s a senior in #animalscience well on her way to #graduation. #CALSMagazine #collegeaccess There are other options, you just have to look for them. It might be a little harder, but there’s always another way. — Selena Ibarra
