#WomensHistoryMonth: Alyssa Nichols, a professional referee, is the first woman from Mississippi to receive a national referee license from the U.S. Soccer Federation. She recently achieved another milestone, becoming the first male or female referee from Mississippi to be appointed to the FIFA panel and represent the United States of America. Nichols was appointed to the NCAA division one, division two women’s final four, and the international soccer tournaments. She became certified as a soccer referee for the first time in 2013 and currently officiates in the National Women’s Soccer League, United Soccer League, and Major League Soccer. The Jackson native graduated magna cum laude from Jackson State University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science. During her tenure at JSU, Nichols was selected as a TOMODACHI Inouye Scholar, allowing her to travel to Japan as an ambassador for the university.
