#PeopleofJSU: “I came to the U.S. in the fall of 2019. Before I came, my English was more British than American because that was the way I was taught to speak. So I had to adapt to the American way of speaking. But I like to learn. In the next five years, I want to learn seven languages. I like to challenge myself. That’s something my mom instilled in me. Growing up, it was just my mom and me. So you can imagine the responsibilities I had. She owns a restaurant, and that’s how I learned things like bookkeeping and accounting. I also learned how to cook and how to manage people. And she did a great job raising me. I wasn't always a straight-A student. I remember failing a semester, and my mom did something that I think I’m going to pass on to my kids. She started rewarding me for the little things I’d do.
