Jackson State alumna Mia Neal has just won an Academy Award for her work in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom"! Neal served as the film’s hair and wig designer and hair department chief. Neal and Jamika Wilson (Viola Davis’ personal hairstylist) are now the first Black women to win Oscars in the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category.
