Laquarius Moorehead, 27, spent four years in the Army, before receiving an honorable discharge. While there, his unit provided support to NATO. Enlightened by his experience, Moorehead’s appetite for higher education increased, and he enrolled as a non-traditional student at Jackson State University in 2017. Moorehead received his bachelor’s degree in sociology this past spring. A native of Yazoo City, Moorehead plans to fill a void in mental health that stems from the sparsity of black therapists in the field.
