In the latest episode of ‘The JSU Legacy Project’, creative writer/editor Rachel James-Terry speaks with Dale Gibbs, widow of Phillip Gibbs.
Phillip Gibbs, 21, a political science major at Jackson State College, and James Green, 17, a student at the neighboring Jim Hill High School, died in a barrage of bullets May 15, 1970, unleashed by local and state police in response to student protests.
In this interview, Dale recounts the story of her courtship and marriage to Phillip, before delving into details surrounding his death and her struggle to overcome the pain and sorrow that still lingers in her heart 50 years later.
