July is BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, & People of Color) Mental Health Awareness Month. In 2008, the US House of Representatives posthumously declared July Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in honor of Bebe Moore Campbell, an author, journalist, and activist who cofounded NAMI Urban Los Angeles. #BIPOCMentalHealthMonth aims to bring awareness to the unique challenges Black, Indigenous, and People of Color face with regards to mental health. Everyone can suffer from mental health issues, but BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) are at an increased risk due to longstanding economic disparities, racial discrimination, and more. As a result, they often do not get adequate mental health treatment.
