On Monday, April 15th, UofNH freshman Taite Panton will be running the Boston Marathon to raise money and awareness for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus (PANDAS) or PANS, the condition that has afflicted him since he was five years old.
For Panton, the condition began suddenly as he began experiencing troubling racing thoughts, having tantrums and screaming fits and developed tics so severe that he couldn’t ride a bike or play with his peers. Panton, who has spent most of his life feeling “trapped in” his own body while battling the complicated disorder, now finds that running is the only time that the noise ever truly stops.
