The first time I trimmed a squash blossom I freaked out because the blossom was closed at the time and the flower was buzzing. I opened it up and a bee 🐝 flew out. Ever since then I have always been a bit more cautious. I learned something very interesting today...come to find out that the bees pollinating squash blossoms are not honey bees, they are actually called squash bees. The female bees nest in the ground, digging holes, and lays eggs. The male bees spend their afternoons napping inside squash blossoms. Male bees are harmless because male bees cannot sting.
