It’s deceptively challenging to cross the Rio Grande River on foot. The water may appear calm, but the current on the U.S. side of the river is extremely strong. Yet Many of the 12,000 Haitian refugees are forced to take this treacherous journey daily. Their encampment under the international bridge between Del Rio, Texas and Acuña, Mexico is lacking essential supplies. Many refugees have needed to be rescued by each other and in some instances the National guard.
