Today on the U.S. Side of the border in Del Rio, Texas, things were relatively “calm.” An overwhelming police presence has been installed to prevent more of the Haitian asylum seeking refugees from entering the United States. Some of those who did get through were aided by the Val Verde Border Humanitarian Coalition. The collation provides the asylum seekers with food and a way to contact members of their family. They also help facilitate travel towards their final destinations. Those who haven’t been as fortunate are being detained and transported from the Del Rio encampment to one of the many detention center and or directly deported.
