I never quite found my groove when it came to tropical prints until I moved to California. In the Midwest we wear flannel...and not in a hipster way...out of necessity. The minute I moved here, I splashed right into tiki. I landed a wiggling role as a part of thehulagirls, honed in on my love of Esther Williams movies, and have ventured to the beach a grand total of 3 times in 2 years. I can see the ocean from my driveway by the way...like I can walk there...but I'm not a beach bunny. I definitely prefer dark tiki bars and dancing around pool parties. My favorite style of tiki comes from the 20s-40s. Though I'm saving my pennies for beach pajamas, I do own a few pieces from the 30s and 40s. It's not that I do not like the 50s or 60s tropical prints, it is more along the lines of what fabric the print is on. I enjoy silks, rayons, and linens. It's a texture thing for me. The earlier fabrics just feel so much more luxuri...
