Chancellor-delegate Richard Lyons — a member of the campus community since the 1980s — will be taking over July 1 as the new chancellor of UC Berkeley with a focus on the financial wellbeing of the university. “We need to fund the whole university, we need to fund the hard-to-fund parts,” Lyons said in his appointment remarks. “How do we participate more fully in the economic value we create?” In his remarks at the UC Board of Regents meeting Wednesday, Lyons prioritized resource leadership and noted that a fresh economic model is needed for the campus.
