Comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory made his Carnegie Hall debut #OTD—April 7—in 1962. The midnight performance also featured Babatunde Olatunji and his Drums of Passion.⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ Gregory performed at the Hall a total of nine times, including a 1964 performance presented by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) with vocalist Nina Simone.
