Did you know that Carnegie Hall was once home to an art gallery? On this day in 1944, tenants in the Carnegie Hall studios held a restricted public auction in what was then called the Carnegie Hall Art Gallery. The space began as a multipurpose room for patron amenities when the Hall opened its doors in 1891, transforming into an art gallery in 1932. It continued changing functions until its most recent incarnation in 2017 as a café.
