When not in orchestra rehearsal this week, #NYOUSA and #NYO2 musicians explored their own artistry through workshops led by Brad Broomfield of drumming4socialchange, yazmany, Eun Lee of the dreamunfinished, and Sonya Robinson. The musicians heard from 13 different artists while exploring how they can impact their own communities and the world around them through art. Before arriving for #NYOUSA and #NYO2, the musicians interviewed a member of their community and asked the question “When people see you, what would you like them to know?” They brought a mirror that represents the individual to campus, bringing that loved one’s story into this summer’s community. The mirrors combined to form an installation titled #espejismoart and led by yazmany. "Espejismo" translates to mirage. 📷: yazmany
